Why choose natural fibers?
Natural fibers (linen, hemp, cotton, wool, cashmere, silk, etc.) and artificial fibers (tencel, modal, viscose) are derived from natural raw materials of animal or plant origin. The difference between the latter is their transformation: natural fibers are transformed mechanically and artificial fibers are transformed using a solvent.
Why choose these two types of fibers over synthetic fibers:
- Biodegradable: they degrade naturally and quickly
- They are carbon neutral
- Anti-perspirant: thanks to their absorption properties, they allow your clothes to breathe and do not retain odours
- Hypoallergenic and antibacterial: they protect your skin and take care of sensitive skin
- Thermoregulating for some of them, such as linen, hemp and wool
- Due to their natural origin, they are antistatic and more comfortable than synthetic fibers
- They are of better quality (as long as they are good taking care of)
Be aware ! Some of these fibers are not all environmentally friendly because their cultivation or transformation process uses massive amounts of toxic products (cotton, viscose, silk) and because they are not always produced locally and have to travel a lot before they can be used in the manufacture of our clothes.
