FREITAG : the circular economy of fashion
In this article, We are going to tell you about the eco-friendly brand FREITAG that made us want to create AVANI.
The history of the brand began in Zurich in 1993, when graphic designers Markus and Daniel Freitag were looking for a resistant and waterproof bag to protect their projects during their bike trips. Inspired by the Inspired by the multicolored heavy traffic that passed every day in front of their flat, they came up with the idea of designing a bag made from old used truck tarpaulins and car seat belts. The famous messenger bag was born. Each bag is unique and made from recycled materials. In just a few years, FREITAG has become the worldwide reference for Upcycling, making the brand the outfitter of all urban, bike-riding individualists.
But they did not stop there: in 2014, they launched their ecological clothing brand, made from fabrics entirely developped in-house with materials like linen, hemp and modal. Initially, they were only looking to equip their employees with good uniforms. But in the end, they’ve created an innovative fabric and all the artisanal process that goes with it.
Their clothing line F-ABRIC is produced within a 2500-kilometer radius of headquarters with an objective of minimizing the use of natural resources, both in terms of water consumption and energy. That’s one of the reason they do not use cotton. No question either of adding elastane in their creations. They work with natural materials such as hemp, flax and modal and they’ve gone even further in there ecological thinking by making their own biodegradable yarn. The materials and the production are 100% European and their clothes are made in the greatest respect of the workers.
The brand fully honors the virtuous cycle of nature without putting aside our individualistic need to express ourselves through fashion. Their philosophy: “we think and act in cycles”.
FREITAG is proof that strong ecological and ethical mindset can be combined with stylish fashion without compromise. It’s our greatest source of inspiration in fashion today.
