TENCEL™ (Lyocell) Clothing – A Sustainable and Innovative Textile Fibre
TENCEL™, also known as lyocell, has become a leading innovative and sustainable fibre in the textile industry. At Avani, we have created a collection of eco-friendly clothing made from TENCEL™, a responsible material renowned for its softness, breathability and low environmental impact. TENCEL™ perfectly reflects our vision of responsible, elegant and environmentally conscious fashion.
Lyocell: an eco-friendly fibre derived from wood pulp
Lyocell fibre is produced from wood pulp, primarily sourced from eucalyptus trees, but also from birch and other hardwood species. This natural raw material is transformed using a cellulose-based process that extracts strong, soft and biodegradable lyocell fibres.
Unlike many synthetic fibres, TENCEL™ is a man-made fibre derived from natural resources, making it far more environmentally friendly. The trees used grow with rainwater only, without pesticides or intensive irrigation, significantly reducing pressure on natural resources.
TENCEL™ production: a closed-loop manufacturing process
The lyocell production process relies on an innovative closed-loop system. Trees are transformed into wood pulp, which is dissolved using a non-toxic organic solvent. More than 99% of this solvent is recovered and reused, dramatically reducing the environmental impact of the process.
The Austrian company Lenzing, a global leader in TENCEL™ fibre production, is the main supplier for committed and responsible fashion brands. Its expertise guarantees low water and energy consumption, processing at low temperatures, and full traceability throughout the supply chain.
TENCEL™ clothing with unique properties
Our TENCEL™ garments offer exceptional performance: a highly breathable fabric, more absorbent than cotton, capable of naturally regulating moisture. Lyocell fabric provides a true second-skin feel, making it ideal for t-shirts, activewear, and everyday essentials.
TENCEL™ clothing is exceptionally comfortable to wear, especially for sensitive skin. This eco-friendly fibre is also known for its excellent absorption and silky softness, making it a credible alternative to cotton — with greater durability and sustainability.
TENCEL™: sustainability and environmental responsibility
Choosing TENCEL™ means opting for a certified, eco-responsible material and avoiding greenwashing. Each label and certification ensures production that meets strict environmental and social standards.
At Avani, we carefully select certified textiles made in Portugal to design garments built to last. Compared to traditional fibres, TENCEL™ requires fewer resources, while enabling efficient recycling and reuse throughout the manufacturing process.
What are the manufacturing steps of TENCEL™?
To better understand the process, TENCEL™ is:
hardwood pulp
closed-loop solvent system
man-made cellulose fibres
soft, durable and breathable textile
These manufacturing steps make TENCEL™ lyocell a more advanced and environmentally responsible alternative to conventional viscose.
