How to take care of your clothes
Taking good care ofyour clothes is very important to make them last over time. We must not forget that maintenance represents more than half of the environmental impact of a garment. So here are some tips for taking care of your clothes:
WASH ONLY WHEN NECESSARY
By reducing washes, you will save water and detergent and your clothes will last longer. Put your garment on a hanger in the open air to get rid of bad odors (outside for 2 to 3 hours). Unlike synthetic materials which retain bad smells, natural materials have absorbent and antiperspirant properties which allow you to air out your clothes rather than washing them after one or two uses.
WASH AT LOW TEMPERATURE
Washing at 30°C is more than enough to get your clothes clean. We advise you to wash natural fiber clothing inside out at 30°C on a delicate cycle with a low spin speed program (drum 800 to 1000). In addition, washing at 30°C consumes half as much energy as washing at 60°C.
USE A LAUNDRY NET
For our wrap-over tops and dresses, we recommend you to wash them in a laundry net to prevent the ties from stretching when the drum of the machine turns with the other clothes. Here are some references for sustainable laundry nets: Living Crafts washing net 100% organic cotton and GOTS certified, PLIM washing net 100% organic cotton and made in France, Guppy Friend net 100% polyamide, recyclable and Oeko-tex 100 certified.
AVOID THE DRYER
Dryers are convenient but consumes a lot of energy. Prefer to air dry in a well-ventilated area and avoid direct exposure to sunlight to prevent fading. For faster drying and less creasing, dry on a hanger (avoid thin metal hangers for knitted styles). When ironing, do it inside out or place a piece of fabric on it to avoid polishing the fabric.
REPAIR INSTEAD OF THROWING OUT
Don't throw away your clothing because of a stain or a tear: always try to recover it or have it repaired. If your clothing no longer suits you, give it to a loved one or an association. If your garment has simply reached the end of its life, drop it off at a recycling station.
OUR REPAIR SERVICE
Maintaining and repairing clothes extends their lifespan but also reduces their environmental footprint, which is why we offer our customers a repair service (rips, buttons to be resewn, seams to be redone, etc.) for their Avani clothes.
To do this, you must send us an e-mail to info@avani.ch with a photo and small description of the problem, so that we can assess the required intervention and the cost that may be associated with it.
The materials that make up our clothes evolve, they are living materials. A living material is a natural material, which moves over time, adapts to your morphology, develops a unique patina, wrinkles... It is an imperfect material but it's a living material, which is beautiful and authentic, unlike synthetic which hardly moves after machine washing and drying.
